Boating is fun..........We'll show you how!
DELAWARE RIVER POWER SQUADRON
is a unit of the United States Power Squadrons® and is one of the first local units of the national organization.
Formally chartered in 1916, just two years after USPS was formed, Delaware River Power Squadron has been serving our nation and region, in war and in peace, with safe boating, navigation, environmental and other programs for its members, members of the boating public generally and for our armed forces.
We are in District 5 of USPS and serve the boating public, sail and power, throughout the Delaware Valley, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, with members as far west as the Susquehanna Valley and as far south as Florida. Members operate sailboats and power boats on the Delaware River, at the New Jersey shore and on Chesapeake Bay, among others.
Our meetings are held at 1930 the 2nd Tuesday of each month other than July and August at the United States Coast Guard Station at Washington Avenue and Columbus Boulevard in Philadelphia.
Persons interested in more information about our squadron should contact the one of the squadron officers listed below.
We offer America’s Boating Course for basic information about safe boating, and administer qualification tests for required safe boating certificates in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. We also offer courses in seamanship, piloting, advanced piloting and other subjects of interest to boaters. Please contact our Educational Officer to register for a class.
Vessel Safety Inspections
Our squadron has several certified vessel safety examiners who are qualified to examine your boat for compliance with U.S. Coast Guard safety requirements, as well as for additional safe boating suggestions. These examinations are free of charge and permit you to correct any deficiencies and obtain both a certificate of successful examination and a sticker for your boat to evidence compliance. If you or any boaters you know would like us to conduct an examination of one or more boats, please contact our Vessel Safety Examiners chair listed below.
